Loose Leaf Tea - To steep loose leaf tea, combine 1-2 teaspoons of your favorite tea with 6-8 oz of cold water and place in fridge. Steep white or green tea for 6 to 8 hours; steep black or oolong tea for 8 to 12 hours depending on desired strength. Hot Coffee or Tea - You can also use this filter to make hot coffee and tea. Put the grounds or leaves in the filter, pour in 200 degree water, and wait a few minutes. Once brewing/steeping is complete, remove the filter, dump grounds/leaves into your compost, pour over ice, add your favorite coffee/tea additions and enjoy! For storing: Keep your brewed coffee and tea in your Mason jar fresh and leak proof with the other silicone seal and stainless steel lid included. Helpful tips: Be sure you use coarse ground coffee! A higher quality coffee grinder will give you a more consistent coarse grind. Cheaper grinders produce a mix of coarse all the way down to powdery grinds. The cold brew coffee concentrate will be strong, so you may need to dilute it. Serve it hot or over ice, add sugar or dairy, or any other way you like! To make a more concentrated version, use more coffee grounds or steep for longer. Cold brew coffee is commonly made very strong and diluted at serving time. They are 10cm, 15cm, and 21cm tall. The mesh part is 7cm in diameter. The mesh is 50 micron dutch weave. All parts are dishwasher safe, and I find this the easiest way to clean them.

Conical Heater
Unfortunately some of us will have to heat our conicals during the long Winter months. No fear, Spike Brewing has the solution! Each conical has its own sized heater and the wattage of each is carefully designed to match it. They also use a built in thermostat which stops the heater from getting too warm. This means you get a gentle warming action when your beer drops below your desired temp (opposed to rapid heating which can overshoot or 'cook' your beer). This heater attaches to Spike Brewing's insulated conical jacket via Velcro. It rests on the bottom cone section of the conical where the coldest liquid is. This will give the most even temperature throughout your fermenter (happy yeast!). Copper Counterflow Chiller
This copper counterflow chiller is probably one of the fastest ways to chill wort. It can be more effectively flushed out after use in comparison to a plate chiller that has small crevasses to trap hop material. These chillers are 9" in diameter and about 7" high. The input and output are approximately 3/8" outside diameter (10mm). These can be used with gravity, although a pump is recommended.

Copper Sulfate (1%)
Some homewinemakers will treat wine affected with H2S by stirring with a copper rod or racking through a copper "scrubby". Copper converts the the hydrogen sulfide into copper sulfide, which is not soluble in wine. After a few days the wine is racked off the copper sulfide which by that time has precipitated down to the bottom of your vessel. However, putting wine in direct contact with a non-measured amount of copper can result in residual copper being left in your wine, especially in low pH environments.A more professional approach to the reduciton of Hydrogen Sulfide is to use a measured amount of copper sulfate in a 1% solution. Normally a trial is set up to determine the least amount needed to eliminate the problem. Because the amounts used are very small, it will be necessary to use a pipette.Add the correct amount of copper sulphate in small .1 ppm doses. Wait several days for the copper sulfide to settle out and then rack off the lees. Do not add copper sulphate during an active fermentation as it may actually cause more hydrogen sulfide to form. If you detect hydrongen sulfide or "rotten egg" smell during fermentation, it is a sign of poor yeast nutrition. Add the recommended amount of Fermaid K for the amount of yeast you used to correct this issue - it should keep you from having to use the copper later!
