Grow your own hops with a rhizome root stock. Chinook has a high alpha content of 11-14%. This American dual purpose hop delivers potent, smooth bitterness. The flavor and aroma are pungent, with suggestions of mountain pine and resin (especially as a dry hop) and notes of citrus and fragrant dried herb in the background. Useful in styles such as pale ales, IPAs, and lagers. Cascade, Magnum, and Nugget hops are the recommended hops for beginner growers.

CIP Ball
Another cool innovation from the Spike Brewing engineers; their low pressure CIP ball! They wanted to design a CIP ball that didn’t require home brewers to purchase another pump if they already owned one. Small brewery pumps, like Chugger and March pumps used on our Spike System, are very common for most home brewers. However, most CIP balls require a much larger pump to work properly. This CIP ball was specifically designed to work with the more common 7GPM pumps. It has also been tested with larger sump pumps which are also commonly used for CIP applications. Spike Brewing also designed the CIP ball to fit through a 1.5" TC port. This allows for quick install of the CIP ball after fermentation. This works especially well with cleaning the temp control coil. They recommend a 5-10min CIP with 160F brewery wash to give a nice and shiny FLEX or conical fermenter. Pro Tip:If you do not have a FLEX+ lid with 1.5" TC port you can attach the CIP ball to the secondary port of your FLEX after an initial dump and rinse. Then simply CIP as described above! Clearzyme
Clearzyme by CellarScience is an enzymatic solution to create clear beer by breaking down haze causing proteins so they cannot later bind with tannins. Because it specifically targets only haze active proteins, it has no effect on flavor, aroma or head retention. Use:Add 1/4 tsp per 5 gallons at the start of fermentation. Works best at a temperature range between 50-68°F and pH of 4-6. Additional Notes:Clearzyme is a protease, or proteolytic, enzyme that partially or totally hydrolyzes peptide bonds in protein. The resulting protein fractions are then too small to bond with the polyphenols in hops. One of the huge benefits of Clearzyme is that it removes the need to cold crash, saving time and energy. Clearzyme also breaks down the Gluten protein that causes allergic reactions. Beers made with barley and wheat that have had Clearzyme added typically show gluten levels below 20ppm.
