  • Tempeh Starter Tempeh Starter

    Tempeh Starter

    1 in stock

Tempeh Starter Culture (Rhizopus Oligosporus) Make your own high-protein meat substitute with our Tempeh Starter Culture. An Indonesian staple, Tempeh is very versatile and can be flavored and used in many ways. Tempeh is a traditional Indonesian food made from fermented soybeans. It is made by a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds soybeans into a cake form. A fungus, Rhizopus oligosporus or Rhizopus oryzae, is used in the fermentation process and is also known as tempeh starter. It is especially popular on the island of Java, where it is a staple source of protein. Like tofu, tempeh is traditionally made from soybeans, but it is a whole soybean product with different nutritional characteristics and textural qualities. Tempeh's fermentation process and its retention of the whole bean give it a higher content of protein, dietary fiber, and vitamins. It has a firm texture and an earthy flavor, which becomes more pronounced as it ages. Can be made with beans, grains, or a mix of the two. Note: A food dehydrator is the best way to maintain the proper temperature (80° to 90° F.) while culturing your Tempeh. Use a thermometer to monitor temperature. You will receive: 2 packets Tempeh starter and instructions You will need: 6-8 quart pot for soaking, then boiling soybeans large bowl colander thermometer kitchen towel, paper towels, or hair dryer to dry beans thoroughly food dehydrator ( or other means of maintaining 85° to 90° F. temp) 3 quart-sized plastic zip bags that have been perforated with pin holes that are 1 inch apart 2 cups dry soybeans ( other dry beans can also be used) 2 tablespoons white vinegar 1 packet Tempeh starter culture (save other packet in freezer for future use) Directions: The beans will need to be dehulled (outer skins removed). Soak the beans overnight or for at least 10-12 hours. Use a pot large enough to allow for the beans to nearly triple in size. Massage the beans with your hands to split & loosen the hulls from the beans. Skim off the hulls as they float to the top. Using the colander, drain off the water & rinse several more times to remove the hulls. Boil the dehulled beans for 1 hour. Drain off the cooking water. Dry the beans by patting them with a clean cloth, paper towels, or using a hair dryer on low. The beans should be dry to the touch. Put the beans in a dry bowl and allow to cool to lukewarm temperature (95° -98° F. ). Add the 2 tbsp. vinegar into beans and mix well. Sprinkle in the starter culture and mix well again. It's very important to distribute the culture throughout the beans. Pack the beans into the plastic bags & seal. The holes will allow the beans to breathe as they ferment. Press the bags firmly until flat, and an even 1 inch or so in thickness. Place the bags in a dehydrator & culture at 85°- 90° F. Sometime between 12 and 24 hours, white spores (mycelium) will spread over & throughout the beans. When this occurs, reduce the heat. The process has begun. When the beans have become a firm mass held together by the spores, the Tempeh is finished. This usually takes 36-48 hours, but can take up to 3 or 4 days. Store your finished Tempeh in the refrigerator for up to 10 days, or in the freezer for 2 months. Tempeh can be marinated & flavored however you'd like, and has endless uses. Ingredients: rice, tempeh culture (rhizopus oligosporus) gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, soy free, non-GMO

Just like the Grainfather G30, the G70 is your true brewing companion when it comes to making beer from grain. Thanks to the 70L capacity, homebrewers can now produce more beer to share or commercial breweries now have a unit that's small enough for pilot testing. It also has a smart controller with built-in wireless connectivity and mobile app integration for step-by-step remote-controlled brewing. The G70 gives you everything you need in one compact package that can be used virtually anywhere. Limited supply in-store available for pickup. Due to the weight and dimensions of the Grainfather G70, this item is shipped palletized freight from the vendor to prevent damage from occurring in transit.  Please allow additional time for processing. Product Description 70L of innovation, consistency and power have helped to create one of our most compelling systems to date. The inherent strength and safety capabilities of the G70 are matched by its bold, contemporary look and new smart brewing technologies. From the creators of the original award-winning all-grain brewing system, the Grainfather G70 represents the next level in brewing equipment. We’ve stepped up our game to bring you a smarter brewing system with a larger 70L capacity, improved design, wireless control, app integration and the same Grainfather signature quality guarantee. Whether you're a homebrewer looking to raise the stakes or a commercial brewery looking to bring authenticity back to your pilot batches, the G70 is your true brewing companion. It gives you everything you need in one compact package that can be used virtually anywhere. Features:  Two-stage false bottom. The conical base allows a false bottom with an inner collar to sit in the recess of the base. Early testers used 600gs of hops and saw full flow through the pump. This is very effective. Bespoke 3.2 kWh concealed conical heating element. Makethe most of the power available. The element covers around 80% of the base and is mounted using a thermal paste rather than braised. This moves the heat efficiently upwards, minimizing the loss of heat to areas where it’snot needed. As it’s spread in a wide area, hot spots and scorching are very unlikely. Also, most solids settle on the false bottom, so they won’t touch the elements. As it’s concealed, it makes cleaning easy too. Integrated sight glass for easy volume readings during sparging. Instead of trying to judge the level of your preboil, you can easily sparge until you reach preboil volume. It’s also easy to clean after every brew. The sight glass cap can be replaced with the sight glass cleaning barb to easily recirculate a cleaning solution. Bottom drain below the false bottom means minimal dead space. High temperature, high flow rate, food-grade pump. With an 8L per minute flow rate, you can transfer your brew efficiently and safely. Heavy duty handles on the outside of the G70 unit. Convenient side entry recirculation. Rather than up and over, the G70 has a built in port on the side of the unit. If the pump is accidentally switched on, the wort will be safely directed back into the boiler. New rolled edge, mash plates and hop filter for increased strength and easy set up. There’s no more silicone seals, as the plates now have a smooth finish, making them more robust, hard-wearing and easy to install. Compared to the G30, the G70 is wider but not that much taller. Comparatively, the draining is still quick from the basket and there’s less likelihood of stuck sparges as the draining surface area is bigger. Safety aspects including locked in support ring, heavy duty, no slip brackets on the grain basket and protection from knocking the ball valve open. Automatic heat sensors and safety cut-out for dry boil protection. Color LCD controller screen with magnetic mounting for easy viewing from all angles and manual control. Glass lid with handle. Ball valve for sampling/draining. This runs in line with the pump so it’s particularly helpful when draining the cleaning water. The water runs out quickly, emptying the unit in no time. Huge Wort Chiller included. Despite the volume being more than double, cooling times remain around the same as the G30 thanks to a more powerful pump, efficient false bottom and bigger wort chiller to match the wider unit. The large size means it needs to be positioned away from the G70, however this is made easy with longer silicone tubing attached as standard. Lifting bar included with winch lifting hook. Use the bar for a two person lift or with a stable winch system for individual brewers to lift the grain basket. Large dual-stage hop filter provides a large surface area to allow for a hopping rate of up to 1.5kg, which also reduces pump load and blockages. Robust stainless steel body and excellent build quality. SupportThe Grainfather is fully supported around the world by a fantastic support team who love brewing just as much as you do. Our support team is here for any technical enquiries on brewing or how the Grainfather works, as well as general customer service enquiries. All Grainfathers come with a 3 year warranty. Beer may be from The Middle Ages, but that doesn't mean your mill needs to look like it's from then, too. Designed with the help and expertise of Briess Malt, this grain mill was uniquely and specifically made so homebrewers and pro brewers alike could get the best and fastest grain crush on the market—and look cool doing it. The sleek, lightweight and compact design of the Spike Mill features an integrated motor, tool-less gap setting, optimal hopper size, cord wrap and (wait for it...) an integrated funnel for dust mitigation. The Spike Mill is the latest innovation coming out of the Spike Workshop. We mean it when we say our engi-nerds thought of everything. Here's a snapshot:  Tool-less Gap Setting: Simply turn the dial to the gap setting you want.  Integrated Motor: It's time to put the hand drill down.   Offset Driven Rollers: The rollers are turned at different speeds (1.3:1) as this helps to shear the grain husk rather than crushing it and producing excess flour and dust.  Optimal Hopper Size: Fill, but not overflow a 5-gallon bucket on the Home and add a full 50 lb bag on the Pro.  Dust Mitigation: We got lots of feedback about dust. So we incorporated a dust mitigation funnel to help contain and reduce the amount of dust that ends up in your brewery.  Light and Compact: Coming in at 25 lbs, the Home Mill is literally half the weight of competitor mills. Your back already says, "Thank you!"  Hardened Steel Rollers: With the expertise of Briess Malt behind us, our team developed hardened 1144 steel (Rockwell 45C) rollers featuring a unique helical machined flute design which delivers the best crush available Chain Driven: Smooth and strong, the chain won't stretch or slip like a belt, or create wear shavings like gears. Both rollers are chain driven so there's zero chance of a jam.  Specs: Integrated 1/3hp motor  3" diameter by 4" long hardened steel rollers Offset driven roller (1.3:1 ratio) 5lb/min throughput  15lb hopper capacity  Weight: 25lb 9" wide x 15" long x 15" tall w/hopper  6' power cord w/ cord wrap
